First chapter in a collection based on HC Andersen's visual work; his personal photo albums, travel books and sketches.
Having launched the collection exclusively in Dover Street Market London, Singapore and Tokyo, we are proud to share the project where it all started.
We have created a small, very exclusive collection, inspired by the above-mentioned image material, which we believe gives a new insight into Hans Christian Andersen's history and sheds light on aspects of his person that are not so commonly known. HC Andersen is primarily known as a storyteller in the fairytale genre of children's literature. But beneath the surface, a universe with incredible depth is revealed, which speaks of the universally human – of joy, sorrow, humor and tragedy. It is a world we think we know, but which surprises and moves upon closer inspection.
The clothes are finished in Denmark and are printed, embroidered and appliquéd locally, so that we could participate in the analog processes that give a personal artistic expression and make each individual product unique.
We have kindly been given access to HC Andersen's original visual work in the archives at HC Andersen's House in Odense; his private picture books, travel diaries, sketches and collages, which have formed the basis of the collection.
